At first it seems simple to tow a trailer. However, the act of towing is not anywhere near the act of driving a car. You must understand the limitations of your vehicle before you look into towing any load.

First, you need to find out how much you can tow, or whether you can tow anything at all. Many subcompact vehicles are not rated for towing. Look into your owner’s manual to find the Gross Trailer Weight (GTW). The GTW is the total amount of weight you can tow including all the parts of the trailer, what it holds, and even the weight of the tires on which it rides.

You will also need to know the amount of Tongue Weight you can carry. The Tongue Weight is the amount of pressure applied downward against the suspension of your vehicle. Visit our service center at Stinnett Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM to attach the hitch you need to carry the Tongue Weight.
